Conflict Management
The Civil Rights & Compliance Office
Our office supports early, constructive resolution of workplace and educational conflicts and provides training to promote a respectful, compliant environment.
Not all concerns require a formal investigation. When appropriate, concerns may be addressed through informal resolution, facilitated dialogue, mediation, or educational intervention.
Conflict management refers to structured, voluntary processes designed to address concerns before they escalate into formal complaints.
Conflict management options may include:
- Consultation and guidance
- Facilitated conversations
- Informal resolution agreements
- Mediation between parties
- Clarification of expectations
- Policy education
Conflict management may be appropriate when:
- The concern does not involve severe misconduct
- The parties are willing to participate voluntarily
- Safety risks are not present
- Policy permits informal resolution
Certain matters, including some forms of sexual misconduct, may not be eligible for informal resolution.
- A concern is raised or consultation requested
- The Office assesses appropriateness
- Parties are contacted (if applicable)
- A voluntary resolution process is facilitated
- Agreements may be documented when necessary
Participation is voluntary and may be discontinued at any time.
Please Note:
If a matter involves discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or sexual misconduct, the District may be required to initiate a formal review process consistent with applicable law and policy.
